Maksim Mrvica and his Flight of the bumblebee in Labin
Wed, Jul 23, 2008
As part of the Labin Art Republic, which you may have had read about on the blog, the world renowned musical virtuoso Maksim Mrvica will appear in concert on 24 July. The concert will be held at the Parish Church in the old town section of Labin beginning at 9:00 p.m. You probably know about Maksim and his music — that fantastic combination of classical and pop-rock that certainly leaves no one unimpressed. And even I, the whole time while writing this post, have Maksim’s famous performance of Flight of the Bumblebee running through my mind.
Maksim’s first album for EMI Classical, “The Piano Player”, was a great success in 2003. It earned gold records for sales in Malaysia, China, and Indonesia; and platinum records in Taiwan, Singapore and here at home in Croatia. In Hong Kong it went double platinum. This album contained what has become his signature work: an especially energetic version of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee.
The Chinese Olympic Committee has selected the works of Maksim Mrvica as theme music for the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing. Maksim will adapt five of his songs and film five spots that will be shown during the athletic events.
As a reminder, this year’s Labin Art Republic lasts from 1 July to 1 September. During that time, there will be a torch-lit tour of the old town of Labin every Tuesday, when you will learn about the history of this eternal town through its legends, stories and events.
