On a hilltop above Rabac lies the medieval town of Labin. Labin’s old name, Albona, means a town on a hill. Labin represents the spirit of antiquity and mysticism, an artist’s heaven, a place where cultural-historical monuments and the opulence of architecture mingles so charmingly with the numerous artists’ ateliers.
After visiting the old town of Labin and strolling through its streets, we recommend that you visit the National Museum and take a peak at the exciting history of Labin, to have a look at the rich archaeological and ethnological collection. The mining model, unique in this part of Europe, will given you a sense of mining which took place in this area for over 200 years. Find out more about Matija Vla?i? Ilirik, well known reformer, protestant, theologist, historian and associate of Martin Luther, look into the artist’s ateliers or simply enjoy the beautiful view from the town Fortice (fortress) of Rabac, the Island of Cres, surrounding area of Labin and U?ka, the highest mountain in Istria.
