3 interesting facts: Rabac
(1) Did you know that all beaches in Rabac have been awarded the eco-label “Blue Flag”? On grounds of its numerous white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea Rabac has been named the “pearl of Kvarner”, and in 2002 it was awarded the Blue Flag.
In order to meet the criteria of the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the goals of which are to ensure that beaches are equipped in the best possible way and provide highest security for bathers, the beaches in Rabac have been assessed in a number of categories: water and beach cleanliness, beach management, visitor security as well as nature protection and environmental protection.
(2) Did you know that the first hotel in Rabac was opened on June 11th, 1889 and that it was called ‘Quarnero’? Regular guest of the hotel, that at that time had only a few rooms and an inn, was the Austrian officer Kaiser, who later on, not far from Rabac, bought Stancija ( Dubrova (near Labin).
The first Rabac hotel was situated in the house of the Viškovi? family, near the present-day studio “Orlando”. When talking about guests that visited Rabac during the period of tourism beginnings in this area, we should also mention the visit of the Austro-Hungarian crown prince Ferdinand, who in the year 1907 came to Rabac.
(3) Did you know that in the mid 19th century, before it became a tourist resort, Rabac was a small and picturesque fishing village? Exactly, a long time ago Rabac was made up from only a dozen houses, and its inhabitants lived solely from fishing. Later on came first holiday-makers and tourists, and soon after started the development of tourism that has grown to become the predominant activity of the area.
