The Fourth Club Dog Show ”Rhodesian Ridgeback”
Tue, Oct 14, 2008
In the touristic settlement Lanterna in Tar, an autumn day dawned beautiful and sunny. It is Saturday, October 11. Strolling through Lanterna, somewhere in the vicinity of the Delfin restaurant, I can see a huge number of people with beautiful, pedigreed dogs. I stop and enquire. Mister Miro answers my questions, saying that the dog show is in progress, namely ”Rhodesian ridgeback” breed.
Around sixty dogs were presented at the Fourth Club Dog Show of an international character. «We have come from everywhere, from Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Tanzania, and Croatia», Miro is saying, the owner of a dog named Shing, also from the ”ridgeback” breed. As I found out, the Rhodesian ridgeback originates from Africa, from the areas of the present day Zimbabwe and Zambia, former Rhodezia. The dogs have 65 to 69 centimetres in height, they are very similar to jackals, their colour may be described as wheaten, and on their backs they grow hair which rises in the opposite direction.
«Good boy!» says Miro to his Shing, who carefully follows its master. «They are good dogs, and very useful,» continues Miro, «exceptionally loyal and defending their own territory, like they used to do in the ancient times, defending the herds from lions’ attacks.» A lady from Slovenia joined our conversation. «Yes, and it should be added that from Africa, that dog who was a proud lion hunter, spread all over the world, gaining sympathies of all dog-enthusiasts.» I agreed with Mrs Mojca, because the Rhodesian ridgeback won my sympathies, too!
