Sculptors in Vrsar, painters in Porec
Tue, Sep 9, 2008
The girl of 18 is said to be of age, and for Montraker – a student school of sculpture, we might say that it is in its best years. The Istrian village of Vrsar has been the host of sculptors and students of sculpture for the past 18 years. Large stone blocks will obtain their final look within two weeks.
Diligent hands of students of visual and applied arts from Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Ljubljana will make bitts and free sculptures under the expert guidance of their mentors. By walking along the Vrsar quay and our camp Orsera, you will discover various stone sculptures made precisely in one of the previous summer schools of sculpture. School of sculpture in Vrsar ends on the 13th September, and Sunday 14th September is the start of the 26th Riviera’s painting colony in Porec.
Riviera from Porec has founded a painting colony in 1983, on the 30th anniversary of its establishment, and ever since then it has been continuously active. Up till now 161 artists have participated in painting colonies. The works that are made during the colony are exhibited in our hotels. Thus the hotel interior is improved and simultaneously a part of contemporary artistic creativity is presented to the guests. This year the colony is also accommodated in the castle Isabella on the island of St Nicholas. At the end of each colony, the obtained works can be seen at the joint exhibition. This year’s participants of Riviera’s colony are: Elvis Kmet, Mirella Brugnerotto, Sarah Seidmann, Silvester Plotais-Sicoe and Nikola Ražov.
