Riviera Adria d.d. from Porec, the biggest Croatian tourist company operating as part of the Valamar group, is the winner of the Diversity Award in Human Resources.
The awards were presented as part of the project “Encouraging Diversity on the Croatian Labour Market,” which is co-financed by the European Commission and aims at the recognition and promotion of employers with high-quality practices of including diversity into the work environment.
Gordana Fabris, HR director at Riviera Adria and at Valamar, the company managing the business operations of Riviera’s facilities, points out that age equality and gender equality are the key components of the Valamar corporate culture. “We make sure all our employees can develop and advance equally, and we also apply different reward and motivation models depending on their performance. We support equality in all aspects of our activities, candidate selection included. The candidates are employed exclusively based on the extent to which they fulfil the conditions required for the position,” says Gordana Fabris.
Ms Fabris states that over two thousand employees of different age groups have been involved in different education programmes. “In 2011 alone, there were nine thousand completed education hours, with more than 30% of our education programme participants belonging to the age group over 40.“
At the Valamar academy for hotel managers and directors, 66 people have finished their education, among them 16 directors and 18 department heads. The academy is currently being attended by nine candidates.
Since 2008, 60 vocational secondary school students have received scholarships for the occupations of chef/waiter, out of which we employed 49. Moreover, we enable the students of local vocational schools to attend practical classes in the Riviera Adria facilities.
Come and see for yourself how qualified and educated our employees are!
