Porec

The best tended tourist towns along the Adriatic coast were chosen again this year within the “Volim Hrvatsku” (I Love Croatia) activities organized by the Croatian National Tourist Board. In the category of a town with over 10 000 citizens, the first place and the prestigious Blue Flower Award went to Porec.  The Istrian jewel won first place in a category with a strong competition, followed by Opatija and Dubrovnik.

This significant recognition was celebrated at the Porec waterfront last Friday with all citizens enjoying a meal together, including the horticultural workers of the Town Utility Services Department, gardeners of the local tourist companies, and Porec guests. The Tourist Board and the town of Porec modestly thanked all those who contributed to winning this prestigious award with their effort and decoration of the house plots.

Over five hundred guests enjoyed the Istrian prosciutto, cod fish, palenta s žgvacetom od boškarina (Istrian beef stew with corn flour), and the inevitable Istrian wines: malvasia and teran. Baredinousaurusi and the “Porecki delfini” big band took care of the good atmosphere.

The interesting events taking place in Porec and its surrounding area will not end with the celebration of this significant success. You can head towards the small town of Livade located along the Motovun forest next weekend and enjoy the truffles there, over several weekends in autumn, until 14 November.

Livade are mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records, as the place where Giancarlo Zigante found the largest truffle in the world, which weighed as much as 1.31 kilograms. All those who visit this small truffle town will have the opportunity to taste, prepare or search for this famous aphrodisiac mushrooms with the help of the hosts and their dogs.
