Wed, Oct 31, 2007
(1) Did you know that the cave Baredine is a protected geomorphologic nature reserve and that it is situated in the vicinity of the town of Nova Vas, near Porec? The cave is 132 meters deep and on its bottom are underground lakes which can sometimes be up to 30 meters deep. As regards the temperature in the cave, it is usually around 14 º C. In one of the halls there is a hole 4m wide and 66m deep that goes down to the underground lakes. We should also mention five halls with a great number of realistic sculptures shaped by the nature.
(2) Did you know that in the cave Baredine you can experience the extraordinary world of underground animal species? And when referring to this we should not forget to mention the olm, an endemic animal species that inhabits exclusively local Karst areas, as well as the miniature transparent crabs and insects. At the cave’s entrance there is a museum showcase where pottery of prehistoric man is exhibited. We presume that our far ancestors would probably leave the pots during the hot, dry, summer day to collect the precious water, drop by drop.
(3) Did you know that the access to the cave has recently been adapted for tourists, so you can find a spacious parking space, and next to the cave there is an info stand where you can buy various souvenirs and picture postcards, also a restaurant with roofed terrace, ethnographic collection of old agricultural machines, as well as a gallery for photography exhibitions and centre for speleo climbing “Speleolit”.
