27th painting colony in Porec
Tue, Sep 8, 2009
Every year at the same time, 27 years in a row, artists of the Riviera Painting Colony meet at St. Nikola Island. They do what they know best here - they paint and, by doing that, they join the artistic group which has been coming to Porec as a guest of the Riviera Painting Colony for years. Paintings which are created in the colony, and which the painters leave in the holdings of the collection, are placed in Valamar facilities in Porec. Paintings both adorn the facilities and offer the guests an opportunity to experience modern art.
The colony gathers artists of all age, from various provinces, of different levels of productivity and poetics, who are all connected by quality and uniqueness of the idea, approach and performance of the artistic work. None of the 27 colonies has been an exception and they have been continuously taking place from 1983.
Under the watchful eye of Danino Bozic, colony selector, this year’s “male colony” will, from 13 to 19 September, gather artists from Slovenia, Italy, Austria and Croatia. Artists of this year’s colony are: Silvestro Lodi, Richard Kaplenig, Mario Dalpra, Dusan Kirbis, Dare Birsa, Bojan Bensa and Tomislav Brajnovic.
The peaceful surroundings of St. Nikola Island might encourage you to record the beautiful views of the island and the town of Porec on the canvas. And since you are already on the island, don’t forget to take a look into the artists’ studio and see how a work of art is created.
