13th JAZZ FESTIVAL IN POREC
Tue, Jun 24, 2008
On 18th June, in the Porec Lapidarij of the County Museum of the Porec Area, the 13th Jazz Festival opened with the performance by Marko Tolja & Oljajazz Banda (quartet). Ten jazz music concerts of different directions and stylistic characteristics will be held every Wednesday from June till August.
In the eleven years since its foundation, the “Jazz in the Lapidarij“ with its continuity and steadiness, became an indispensable synonym for a diverse, high-quality and traditional selection of jazz musicians from the country and abroad, who present themselves during the summer months in the town of Porec. Every Wednesday the historically valuable complex of the Lapidarij, situated in the old town core, resounds with the sounds of classical, but also modern jazz in all its heterogeneous and rich variations (swing, blues, ethnic, funky, acid jazz…), whose authors do not leave the audience, nor the critics, indifferent.
From the rich program of performances of musicians from Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Great Britain, the USA, Brazil and Croatia, we would like to single out the following:
“Fabulous four” from Croatia – 25th June
“Peaches Staten” quintet from Italy/England – 2nd July
Peaches Staten belongs to the Chicago blues scene. Born in Doddsville (Mississippi), he started his musical career in Chicago, a real blues and soul talent “factory“. He built his singing career next to the greats - Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Melvin Taylor, Lurrie and Carrie Bell.
“Satelite quartet” from Croatia – 30th July
The season of the 13th Jazz Festival in the Lapidarij ends on the 3rd September with the performance by Another Spring Quintet (Croatia).
