Tenth anniversary of the Motovun Film Festival
Tue, Jul 22, 2008
Film buffs from around the world will be heading to Motovun, a small town in the Istrian interior, from 28 July to 1 August to celebrate the 10th Motovun Film Festival. This year the festival is devoted entirely to films originating in smaller studios and to independent productions — to films that are marked by innovation, ideas, and the power of their stories.
In this small hill town the Motovun Film Festival is preparing its most ambitious program to date in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The Festival’s tenth birthday, and the 100th birthday of Russian filmmaking, will be celebrated by the presentation of more than 100 films that will heat the projectors until they are white hot. The festival’s many guests will also be able to enjoy concerts, the opening of a new theater, and raising their glasses of vodka to at least that many more birthdays!
More than 100 films will be shown, with 28 on the main program. A new theater will be opened in honor of the jubilee of a great film-making tradition – the 100th anniversary of Russian film. With 16 showings daily, the Motovun theater will be working every day from 10:00 a.m. until almost daybreak the following day. During the evening from Thursday to Friday it will work non-stop, which means that the projectors will be working more than 40 hours straight.
There will also be a rich program accompanying the Festival – exhibitions, meetings between festival guests and the public, and concerts. The 10th anniversary of the festival will be celebrated just like it began — with the band Gustafi until dawn!
