Klapa singing in Arena

Istria

Klapa NostalgijaIt is time to announce one more big concert that will take place in the Pula Arena. After a few big names that have performed here during the Histria festival 2007, by this I mean primarily Norah Jones and the music spectacle “directed by” the Dalmatian music duo - Gibonni and Oliver, Arena will on Friday, September 7th once more be host to a spectacular music night.

Namely on this day among the ancient walls of the Arena sounds of klapa singing will echo. Klapa singing has always been a part of tradition for the people from the coastal areas in Croatia and the goal of this manifestation is the presentation and preservation of this authentic musical expression.

This will be the biggest and probably the most spectacular klapa-singing event ever to take place in Croatia because Arena is a place whose mixture of ambience and acoustics can be hardly outstripped by any other location in Croatia. With the goal of presenting the high ethnomusical value of the klapa singing the organisers have gathered “creme de la creme“, so the visitors will be given the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the best and most laureled klapa-singing groups from Dalmatia, Istria, Primorje, the Adriatic islands and Zagreb on the premises of the Arena.

These are: Maslina, Nostalgija, Cambi, Iskon, Crikvenica, Luka, Teranke, Cesarice, Subrenum, Sv. Juraj Hrvatske ratne mornarice, Motovun, Kumpanji, Jelsa, Vokalisti Salone, children’s klapa-singing group Rabljanke, and Vinko Coce will perform also.
Beside the performance of the klapa groups themselves let us mention the performance of the popular stand-up comedian Željko Pervan who will make sure that there is, beside good music, enough laughter in Arena.

In reference to music and performance, the range of songs will stretch from the oldest known klapa songs all to the modern klapa performances.

We should not forget to mention that the concert starts at 9.30 p.m..
