Green Istria
In the last three months we have in our posts addressed mostly the coastal area/part of Istria, especially Porec, where most of our facilities are situated. The time has come to tell you more about the Istrian hinterland.
Tame hills where picturesque castles are situated are the main visual characteristic of the “Green Istria”. Although in the last few years numerous tourist brochures have started callind this part of the Istrian peninsula “Croatian Toscany” and similar, I must admit that I am against such labelling of this region. Tuscany is Tuscany, and Istria is Istria. Although the might have similar views, each of them has its own history, its characteristics, customs and habits.
Autumn is definitely the best time of the year for exploring the Istrian hinterland, especially if you are one of those people who like to gratify their palates with original delicacies or a glass of good wine. If you feel addressed by this, don’t forget that autumn is the season of harvesting and processing of grapes, olives, and it’s also the season of white truffle, the most appreciates of which is Tuber magnatum Pico.
Beside the “gastro nomads”, also artists, dreamers, romantics will definitely find something to their taste … Namely, the first thing visible to the naked eye is the unique play of colours on every step you make, brought about by the changing of the season. Furthermore, Grožnjan, Motovun, Višnjan, Hum, Buje, Tinjan…, these are only some of the pearls of the Istrian hinterland, and with their art galleries, observatories, taverns, wine roads, numerous historical monuments… they definitely deserve their own post and story, for that reason…stay tuned.
