From Rabac to Labin and back
During your stay in Rabac on of the must-dos is the visit to the near-by town of Labin, situated on a hill, 320 m above Rabac. Labin is a little town perfect for exploring, and in today’s post we present three locations:
1. Loggia of Labin (Labinska loža) – Loggias are something authentic for small Istrian towns. In the past there were two loggias in Labin, the small and the big one. The small was situated near Teatrino – small theatre and doesn’t exist today, whereas the loggia from this photo can be found on the Labin square Crc, and it was built in 1550. During the years of its existence various events have taken place here – citizens had used it for resting and art events, even events of completely different purpose - e.g. reading of various proclamations, pursuing lawsuits etc…
2. Palace Francovich and palace Battiala Lazzarini are the most beautiful palaces in Labin, they were built in the 17th century. In the palast Francovich you can visit the permanent display of the collection of Matija Vlacic Ilirik, a famous theologian, reformer, historican, who was born in Labin in 1520.
The palace Battiala Lazzarini has since 1960 been housing the National museum, and beside numerous valuable displays we should point out to the mining display with objects that were once used for work in coal mines.
3. Teatrino, the little theatre in Labin – building that has since 1844 been catering for various purposes of theatre and art, and before had been used as “fontik”, respectively wheat warehouse (built in 1539).
Teatrino has passed through various phases, numerous shows, presentations, concerts and other art events have taken place here, and so is even today.
