16th Truffles Festival in Istria
Its majesty the truffle has its own celebration on special days, and it definitely deserves it. This year it will be celebrated from 4 October to 8 November during the 16th Truffles Festival. Its particular taste presents a genuine fantasy for gourmets. It is said that a person either likes truffles or not, and I, without a doubt, belong to the first category, yummi…
The most admired truffles sort is the white truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico), and it is found in abundance in Istria, around the town of Livade. However, it would be a sin not to mention the black truffle which is best as pasta spice.
On 4 October in the town of Sovinjak you will be able to enjoy Bela Nedeja (White Sunday), a public festivity with truffles and champagne offer, while you will have the opportunity of enjoying yourself in the town of Livade, the wealthiest truffles finding, on 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25 October and 1 November. The Truffles Weekend will take place in the town of Buzet on 7 and 8 November where truffles exhibition and fair await you, as well the indigenous local products (wine, brandy, olive oil, souvenirs).
Here’s a bit of advice for all truffle fans: during their preparation, truffles shouldn’t be pealed nor eaten whole and they shouldn’t be cut into small pieces, grated or cooked. They should be simply cut into thin slices and placed onto food which should be as warm as possible in order to fully enjoy the noble aromas of the white truffle.
