Within the wide range of Krk specialties and delicacies you will find the particularly interesting old and forgotten recipes which the caterers nowadays serve as a top quality tourist offer one must experience. The forgotten tastes from our past still seem to find their way to people who enjoy in them and use as means to go back in time and enjoy the gastronomic wealth of the past. Imbrijagoni (traditional Krk cookies) are certainly one of the most significant Krk pastries. This old recipe was kept by the local people as top secret, especially one ingredient used in it. It is the fennel liquer produced in the home of only one Krk family.
The uniqueness of this exceptional cookie is its durability. Namely, way back in the past when there was a lack of primary food products, and therefore pastries as well, the people of Krk kept working on the recipe for the cookie until they reached this unbeliavable expiry date. Back then, Imbrijagon was baked during the pre-holiday season, a tradition kept even today, so it will be a part of the Easter table in many Krk homes this year as well. Since imbrijagon is tasty, but also very hard, there is a story of how it is easier to eat it when the scirocco wind (jugo) is blowing, rather than bora (bura), because it becomes more moist and softens. However, this is just a story so if I managed to intrigue you just a little bit, come to Krk and see for yourself…
