The Fig days - from August 21 to August 24 on the Island Krk
Thu, Aug 21, 2008
Fig is a fruit of a plant, i.e. a tree with the Latin name Ficus carica. It is an authentic Mediterranean fruit being consumed mainly in raw or in dried condition and it can be a delicious supplement to grape brandy and other meals as well.
The Adriatic Coast is rich in figs. As picked figs decay quickly, they are mainly dried or used in making of fig jam. Dried figs are rich in C and E vitamins and in beta-carotene and recent studies show that dried figs act as powerful antioxidant as high as 18 % stronger compared to black tea.
Just at the time of the most intensive fig ripening we prepare The Fig Days at on the Island of Krk for you. From August 21 to August 24 you may taste delicious cakes made of figs, such as smokvenjak, and excellent fig brandy. We recommend you dried figs with porto wine and goat cheese, figs with chocolate and almond filling, fig and carob pie, chocolate lined figs, fig pudding…
Delicious smokvenjak (a roll made of dried figs) will greet you in the room of Hotel Valamar Koralj throughout the year.
Come to the Fig Days and experience why the Island of Krk is the destination of gold pleasures.
