Island of Krk

vlatko stefanovskiThe programme of Summer manifestations is currently underway in the city of Krk, a performing arts and music manifestation with a long and rich tradition. In fact, what we are talking about is one of the oldest happenings of this kind on the whole Adriatic coast. Last year, the Krk Summer Manifestations celebrated it’s 50th anniversary, while every summer, ever since 1957 up until today, the inhabitants of Krk and their guests have the wonderful opportunity to enjoy numerous concert performances ranging from classical to contemporary music, dramas, ballets and other cultural events…

During the Manifestations, held in the old heart of the city of Krk, one can attend the performances of the greatest Croatian artists and this year will be no exception.

Four programmes were staged during the month of July – three concerts and one theatrical play, while August is reserved for seven very interesting music and theatre events. Today, for example, one can attend the concert of guitar virtuosos Vlatko Stefanovski and Miroslav Tadi?, who will bring along as their guests numerous top musicians. A peculiar Oriental-Balcan fusion of the mentioned pair linked with the sounds of Theodosi Spassov (kaval) from Bulgaria and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri (North India’s drum, the tabla) from India will surely create an unforgettable atmosphere in the Krk Kaštel (Castle).

On Tuesday, 2nd August 2007, also in the Kaštel premises, a famous theatre play “Hercegovci za volanom” (“Herzegovians behind the steering wheel”) is scheduled. It is performed by the actors group Histrion and directed by Zoran Muži?. The Summer manifestations programme in Krk will continue two days later with the concert of Croatian Army Orchestra and the Krk Town Band on the occasion of 175th anniversary of the Town Band’s existence. For Wednesday, 8th August, a concert of “Ministrela”, an ensemble of early renaissance music, is scheduled.
