This year the snow has fallen earlier than it usually does and since the summer was too hot we weren’t expecting it so soon. The Kvarner mountain tops are usually covered with it in the end of November or in December but this year the snow has fallen twice already. Here are some of the ways of having fun in the snow in the Kvarner area. Platak is a small family ski resort in the vicinity of Rijeka with numerous recreational possibilities both during the winter and the summer.

Alongside the school of skiing, the ski resort also offers snowboarding and the night and day safari in the forest, what are actually the key elements of the winter offer in the Primorje region. It is probably the only ski resort in our vicinity where, from the top of a ski lift (1363 m), you can enjoy a view of the sea! Apart from skiing, Platak also offers other forms of winter entertainment. A kilometre long trail for motor sleds was put together in the Pribenis valley, a small snow park was built on the Pribenis trail and a trail for ski running and walking was set up as well.

Over the weekend families with small children and students visit Platak which is very popular among the pupils who spend organized winter holidays on Platak. Almost all visitors do the same things they are now very familiar with - first some fun in the snow, then lunch at one of the mountain cottages and then back to the ski trails. Alongside the winter time, Platak is also very popular during the summer, as a destination chosen by many people who are in love with the mountains. On a distance of only a few hours’ walk along the tended and marked mountain trails, Platak offers macadam roads perfect for mountain cycling or a light stroll through nature.
