Days of figs in Krk from 4 to 6 september
Thu, Sep 3, 2009
Figs, alongside olives and vine, are part of the Mediterranean trinity and, in terms of symbolism, they are definitely the most interesting part. There are only a few plants with so many legends related to them. The old Greek prescribed the figs strength and power due which they were served as food, whether dried or fresh, during the early Olympic Games. “Your fig tree has dried up!” was the worst curse and to sit under the fig tree symbolized prosperity and peace, unlike today, when this ancient fruit struggles to survive.
In order to renew the popularity of this forgotten plant, Krk Tourist Board is preparing a gastronomic manifestation called the Days of Figs.
From 4 to 6 September all across the island of Krk, tourists, visitors and local people will have the opportunity to try fresh, green figs, dry figs with homemade brandy, various fig cakes as well as the unimaginable combinations of fig dishes prepared by the top quality island chefs and pastry cooks.
Valamar Koralj Hotel is also enrichening its restaurant offer and it is offering the famous Krk “smokvenjak” (fig pastry), homemade fig jam, “krcka kneginja” (Krk duchess) - a cake made of figs, and many other fig dishes.
Come to Krk during the Days of Figs and try the unique Krk delicacies; figs.
