Island of Krk

Did you as a child fantasize about becoming a pirate and search for hidden treasure? If you are in the town of Krk on the 8th, 9th and 10th August, you can really become a pirate!

At the ancient time of the rule of Krk princes, the Frankopans, many merchant galleys stopped at the town. The legend says that in the far 1524 there was a grave robbery in the sea in front of Krk, when the pirates, called “Pirates from Plavnik”, in the channel between two deserted islands – Mali Plavnik and Plavnik, intercepted a merchant galley carrying valuable cargo. In a fast action, the prince’s guards’ ship sunk the pirate ship, and the only surviving pirate made it to the island of Plavnik where he buried the plundered valuable objects. This is where the pirate from Plavnik disappeared without a trace, and the only thing found was a mysterious map with instructions on how to find the buried treasure on Plavnik. On that day the prince offered a rich reward to the finder, and the search still lasts…

The legend of the “Pirates from Plavnik” will be revived on this year’s Krk Fair. In the evening hours, on the 8th August, there will be a reconstruction of the sea battle in the Krk port. Under the cover of darkness the merchant galley will be attacked by the “Pirates from Plavnik”, and with an abundance of sound and light effects the battle will finish with the chase towards Plavnik.

For the next two days, on the 9th and 10th August, excursion ships in Krk port will organize a “Treasure Hunt”, a whole-day excursion to the island of Plavnik. In this adventure for the whole family, you can win the valuable reward of the Krk prince – of course, if you will be the one to find the hidden treasure!

Be informed, even on holiday; from the offer of daily newspapers from more than 20 countries choose the ones which will be delivered to your room in the morning.
