Today’s walls are mainly from the Middle Ages, and sections next to the Franciscan Monastery, castle and the coast date from the times of the times of Roman settlement.
(2) Did you know that inscription Splendidissima civitas Curictarum (The most splendid town of people of Krk) is from the ancient tombstone from the 4th cent? It speaks about town of Krk of course, and the town in its old core exists today mostly in the same way it was described long time ago. In the first years of the 1st cent Romans used to call Krk “the golden island” (Insula aurea) due to its natural wealth.
(2) Did you know that Krk was one of the main strongholds of Glagolitic culture in the Slavic world? One of the first written findings is the Krk inscription, from the 10th cent, and the most famous monument of Croatian language (1100g) was found in Jurandvor, next to Baška. This is a charter from King Zvonimir to the Benedictine Monastery situated there.
