Dubrovnik is a well-known cultural centre. Its numerous churches, city walls, fortifications, and the museums, with their exceptional historical values, fascinate every visitor who comes to this ancient town. In the several following lines, please become familiar with the museums of the town of Dubrovnik.
The Museum of History and Culture
Located in the Prince’s Court (Knezev dvor), it is one of the most beautiful edifices dating from the 15th century. From the permanent exhibition, we select the collection of photographs and photo-materials, the collection of icons, glass and textile materials.
Ethnographic Museum
Represents the rural architecture and traditional husbandry of the Dubrovnik region, and also the national costumes, textile materials, laces and other artifacts representing customs and folklore of the Dubrovnik region.
The Museum of Modern History
Acting since 1956. In its collection there can be found documents, photographies and negatives, and also the memoire materials related to the modern history, that is World War II, and also the Homeland war.
Maritime Museum
Permanent exhibition is made out of 4000 artifacts which represent a rich maritime history of Dubrovnik and surrounding area. Among the displayed objects there are ship models from the 17th, 18th and 19th century, flags, cannons and other weapons, figurehead, nautical instruments, ship logs, and maps.
The Dulcic-Masle-Pulitika Gallery
The presentation of works by three major protagonists of artistic life (in painting) in Dubrovnik during 1950s and 1960s of the twentieth century: Ivo Dulcic, Antun Masle, and Gjuro Pulitika.
The Dubrovnik Artistic Gallery
More than two thousand paintings, sculptures, graphic arts, and drawings by the most important painters, sculptors and graphic artists of Dubrovnik and Croatia (Vlaho Bukovac, Braco Dimitrijevic, Ivan Mestrovic, Ferdinand Kulmer and many others).
