Dubrovnik

The Dubrovnik Summer GamesThe Dubrovnik Libertas Film Festival ended a week ago and tomorrow another big Dubrovnik summer season event is scheduled to start tomorrow – the Dubrovnik Summer Games. This cultural spectacle is being held for the 58th year in a row, and it will last from 10th of July to 25th of August. As in the previous years, the programme consists of drama, music and dance performances that will be held on 13 locations in Dubrovnik. Among others, top Croatian and international artists from all over the world will be hosted in the picturesque spaces in the city of Dubrovnik, such as the Sponza Palace Atrium, the Prince’s Court, the Lokrum Island, the Revelin Fortress… Detailed information about the Dubrovnik Summer Games programme is available here, and to check the list of all the locations where drama, dance and music performances will be held see link.

It is worth mentioning that this year’s Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be in the spirit of the 500th anniversary of the birthday of Marin Drži?, meaning that part of the programme will be dedicated to this great citizen of Dubrovnik. Držic is an inspiration for a drama workshop headed by Joško Juvancic “U pohode Marinu” (“Visiting Marin”), that will include the performances of Držic’s works like “Venera” (“Venus”), “Adon” (“Adonis”) and “Novela od Stanca” (“The short story of Stanac”) (29th, 30th and 31st July), as well as the performance of Držic’s comedy “Arkulin” directed by Krešimir Dolencic (20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th August). From the rich drama programme we would like to single out the play “Adieu Europe” directed by Paolo Magelli, and performed by the Hungarian National Theatre “Miskolc” and the play by the Zagreb Youth Theatre, “S druge strane” (“On the other side”), directed by Bobo Jelcic and Nataša Rajkovic.

As for the music programme, the Festival’s opening ceremony will see the performances of this year’s winners of the prestigious contest “Cajkovski”, recently held in Moscou. The winners are in fact “local boys”, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra soloists under the baton of Ivan Ropusic. The programme includes a total of 28 concerts, and it is truly diversified, from string quartets and symphony orchestras, through solo instrumentalists to philharmonics. All the events included in the musical part of the programme are listed here.
