Dubrovnik airport for 2 million passengers
Mon, May 31, 2010
The airport is 20 kilometres away from the town of Dubrovnik it was called after. It was built in 1962 in the town of ?ilipi in the Konavle region. The air traffic above the Dubrovnik region had begun operating in 1936 on a runway in the Konavle field.
Due to its significance in the southern Croatia’s tourist development as an important destination which can be reached by plane, substantial efforts and resources have been invested into its reconstruction and building with the objective of accepting two million passengers.
A new passenger terminal was opened in May this year, with around HRK 180 million invested into it, and the town of Dubrovnik gained a modern building with a surface area of almost 14 thousand square meters, adapted to meet the demanding provisions of IATA (International Air Transport Association) and other international standards. The grand opening of the so-called B terminal also marked the successful completion of the third out of five stages of the Dubrovnik Airport reconstruction project.
So far the reconstruction was completed on the following facilities: the A building, which was expanded from 1317m2 to as much as 10018m2, and the B building whose surface are was nearly doubled from the initial 6323m2, while the C building is planned to triple in size amounting to the total of 17802m2 after the fourth and fifth reconstruction stages are complete. Upon the completion of all reconstruction activities, Croatia will have an up-to-date airport with four bridges, something that no other airport in country has yet.
