Dubrovnik – a multicultural centre
Without a drop of exaggeration we can say that Dubrovnik has in these days become a true world’s multicultural crossing point. There is so much going on in the town that it’s simply impossible to include it all in just one post. We have on several occasions written about the central cultural event of the summer in Dubrovnik, under this I mean the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, that has continued with its great programmes, whereas we can say that, beside the Festival, a real “cultural virus“ has taken over all parts of Dubrovnik.
We’d like to draw your attention to three top music events that the citizens of Dubrovnik and their guests had the opportunity to attend on various town locations in the last few days. Among others the performance of the young Chinese guitar player Xuefei Yang, an extremely talented and several times awarded artist who performed the works of Fernando Sor, Joaquin Rodrigo, Niccolo Paganini and Heitore Villa-Lobos. The concert took place on Sunday, and only two days later, on Tuesday, August 14th, two more big concerts were held.
In the Rector’s Palace Atrium citizens of Dubrovnik were impressed by the music virtuosity of the Japanese violonist Midori who performed the works of Brahms, Bloch, Schumann and Schubert accompanied by American pianist Charles Abramovich, and in the amphitheatre of the Hotel Belvedere the audience was set on fire by the famous “king of the Roma music” Šaban Bajramovi? accompanied by his orchestra consisting of leading jazz and world-music instrumentalists.
Culture fever in Dubrovnik continues, and all the events for the following days can be found on this link on DubrovnikPortal. Also, all information regarding the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, that is open until August 25th can be found on their official site.
