Dubrovnik

A „small summer festival“, as the locals call it – 5th Summer film school will be held from August 4th to 14th on the Island of Sipan near Dubrovnik, which will provide the young film lovers with the opportunity to learn how to make their own films from professionals.

According to the school organizers, Sipan film school students will be introduced to the basics of visual expression in order to master the film language and new media, through games and association with the professionals, and they will also be informed of the role of media in today’s society.

New to this fifth season of Summer film school is the documentary film workshop led by Brand Ferro and Petra Seliskar. Director Zvonimir Juric will be leading the fiction film workshop with the assistance of journalist and writer Amir Kamber and editing expert Nikola BiScan Radionicu, while the photo workshop will be led by Croatian photographer and designer Zeljko Koprolcec.

A mini film festival, this year partly dedicated to the work of the recently deceased Croatia actor Boris Dvornik, will be following the workshops. New Croatian films will also be shown within the film program, followed by the works of students who participated at the Summer film school, which will be shown on the closing night on August 14th. Participation of Vinko Bresan, Predrag Predja Vusovic and Krsto Papic, who will present their films on Sipan, is certainly something that needs to be emphasized.

Dubrovnik musician Ibrica Jusic will take care of the music atmosphere by performing his famous chansons at the steps of the open movie theater below Platanj.

Four short fiction films and one animated film were recorded on the Island of Sipan in the past four years. Fifteen short manuscripts were written and over a hundred students attended the school located in the old Dubrovnik villa. Several thousands of people visited the islands which has approximately 350 residents, in order to see the work of these young film students.
