The advantages of living on an island
Thu, Nov 19, 2009
Croatia is one of few countries in Europe blessed with the special harmony of the sea, the sun and the fragrant Mediterranean island vegetation on its fifteen hundred islands. Once, the islands were buzzing with life, but today island life is threatened by extinction. However, that fact is completely unjustified because the islands are the most desirable places to live in Croatia, in view of their beauty, climate and environmental advantages.
Living on an island… What is the first thing that comes to your mind when considering that idea? The obstacles and problems of a life of hardship, the unavailability of medical care, the lack of schools or entertainment facilities? For those not born on an island, the most common preconception concerns the limitations of communication, but in today’s world, governed by advanced technologies, that problem is anything but insurmountable.
Living on an island primarily offers you a healthy way of life, an escape from pollution and the neurotic rhythm of city life. In today’s time of globalisation and the ever increasing pace of life, living on an island can actually be considered an advantage, not a hindrance. Therefore, a person who can recognise the values of a natural environment knows that island life is hard but also beautiful, depending on what one actually expects from life.
